Central perks of big city living

Another supremely fantastic week has passed, and with it, a whole deluge of stories! From my inhaling of the famous frozen hot chocolate from Serendipity 3 to making friends with snapping turtles at Central Park.

Before exploring the park with Molly (above) and Leland (behind the camera), we mean mugged on benches outside Strawberry Fields and then bee-lined for those turtles.

No not really, the turtles were more of a happy surprise, as you can see in my elated face below.

But really, look at that guy! What a sweetheart. But that smile was gone (and so was he!) the second that turtle realized we didn’t bring snacks.

Then we set off to lounge around on the big rock from “Catcher in the Rye.” After taking lots of touristy, cringe-worthy snaps upon the rock below, we stumbled upon the correct rock moments later.

But hey! Look at that view anyway.

And speaking of “look at that view,” check out this beauty. The notorious Frozen Hot Chocolate from Serendipity 3. De-lish! When the temps start rising, this wonderful ice cream shop is a good place to chill out.

I also happened upon this lovely grunge model working the ’90s chic trend in the park. But she’ll have you know, flannels were her thing, long before even Marc Jacobs made grunge cool with Perry Ellis. Ain’t that right, Molls?

Another week down, a handful more to go! Keep sending me suggestions for places to visit. Despite my sarcasm, I thoroughly enjoy being a tourist and will adventure mostly anywhere in the Big Apple.

  1. Used to live on East End Avenue and ran in Carl Schurz Park most every day. It is a beautiful park on the East River; borders Gracie Mansion – worth a visit!
