From the Rockaway Beaches to the SoHo Thrift Shops

My NYC diary entries have been on hiatus in recent weeks, and this is due to the fact that I’ve been elbow-deep in the city experiencing absolutely everything possible, so that I can report it all back to you.

So, you know, you’re welcome. Oh – no, no don’t mention it!

Our first image brings us back to a little thrift shop in SoHo called Monk. I perused the rack on racks on racks of vintage band tees, sundresses, leather jackets and (obviously) ample selection of fur coats. Paired with some Lennon-esque sunnies, I have to say it was a pretty flawless look altogether, am I right?

(Don’t forget the styling touch of dirty, city-worn Vans! So street chic.)

I also got to adventure out to the Rockaways with big sis Carly a few weekends ago. We wandered through Fort Tilden and checked out the Patti Smith work. But to be honest, I really fell in love with the gorilla below.

This gorilla was just sunning himself on the pavement, pointing us in the right direction of the beach. What a swell guy.

And his face set off my Vans beautifully! As did the multicolored graffiti wall in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: I match my shoes to my surroundings.

Amy and I took in our fair share of free and nonfree concerts this summer, too! This particular event was free, and I certainly appreciated that. Below, we patiently wait for José González to take the stage at Lincoln Center’s outdoor summer concert series. As you can see, patience is one of our specialties!

And unfortunately, this past Friday marked the last official day at my Marie Claire internship.

I was so sad to leave my absolutely amazing boss Michelle, but I’m so grateful to have gotten the chance to learn from one of the best fashion magazine teams in the biz! The people at this office are incredible, and I’m so excited to take the lessons I’ve learned on writing, fashion and the magazine industry with me!
