Mon Amour, Indeed!

This past week I took a trip to Sarasota’s resident indie theater, Burns Court Cinema, for an afternoon screening of “The Imitation Game.” And knowing I might run into the film’s star, Benedict Cumberbatch, made me put some extra thought into the day’s outfit.

Naturally, I decided to go with a subtle love note, courtesy of the great minds at Kate Spade New York. I’m pretty sure he could read my shirt’s slogan from there, although it turns out he is a man of few words.

(P.S. The movie was pretty excellent, although I don’t see why Cumberbatch’s right-hand man, Martin Freeman, couldn’t have made a cameo. It was England, there were coats, and Cumberbatch plays an antisocial know-it-all. Sound familiar?)

I slipped my KSNY top into some black high-waisted Forever 21 skinnies, looping the girly look together with a powder-pink KSNY bag.

The plethora of KSNY items was a tribute to the city I’d be jetting off to the following weekend, so I of course couldn’t stop at the purse.

A bright pink KSNY watch was the next decorating accessory, which I stacked beneath a gold tasseled J. Crew bracelet. And what’s that deep blue gleam peeking out of the bottom right? Oh, just this college graduate’s brand spankin’ new class ring! Go Gators.

I had some fun giving my ombré locks a beachy curl to complement the look’s nautical stripes, as opposed to the sleek ‘n’ straight bob I typically coax them into every morning. The textured waves set off the color gradients pretty spectacularly, which you can see here as I peer* beyond the tree.

(*Fun fact: I was trying to convince my 12-year-old dachshund, Dude, to remain out of sight. He’s such a camera hog.)

My trusty pair of Peter Pilotto for Target circle specs added that touch of whimsy I can’t leave home without.

And even if it’s winter in Florida, the addition of booties is always a sure way to tie together a cold weather ensemble. I opted for this stacked heel lace-up from Nine West, which has served me well in a snow-less, sunny season. We’ll see how they hold up in the Empire State!
